The equipment used to balance the CHRA is very expensive. Plus unlike a crank which is balanced to maybe 10,000 rpm the CHRA is balanced in excess of 100,000 rpm. The fact that many of these unit's last 10 years or more is just amazing to me. Honestly the expense is not in the materials but in the precision machines used to create them.
